Women's Financial Literacy Project
Initially launched in 2004 with the YWCA New England Regional Council,
the Women's Financial Literacy ProjectTM is an effort to advance
the financial literacy of women and girls in the New England area. Plans
include expansion of the program through community outreach to create financial
literacy education opportunities for women and girls nationally.
The Women's
Financial Literacy ProjectTM uses educational programs that stress financial
responsibility and cover budgeting techniques, the importance of saving,
and the appropriate use of auto loans, mortgages, and credit cards. The
women and girls participating in the Women's Financial Literacy Project
also learn about the effects of delinquency and bankruptcy and the importance
of establishing good credit.
The Institute for Financial Literacy provides instructor training and materials,
textbooks, test correction templates, and program and technical support.
Partnering agencies under this project provide administrative program support
and provide direct program delivery, including instructors, classroom space
and testing services.
