Center for Financial Certifications
“Training You Can Trust”
Established as an independent division of the Institute for Financial
Literacy® in 2006, the mission of the Center for Financial Certifications
is to advance the professionalism and effectiveness of education and counseling
within the field of financial literacy. The Center accomplishes this mission
by providing professional development, training, and certification for
those in the financial counseling, education and related fields.
The Center’s programs are designed to be relevant to financial professionals,
educators, and individuals volunteering in their communities. The Center
currently offers two certification programs.
The Certified Personal Finance Counselor™ (CPFC™) was designed
to provide professional development and training in the areas of counseling
techniques and the elements of financial management. This will give individuals
who work with clients in a one-on-one setting the tools they need to assist
those clients in establishing personal budgets, evaluating debt loads,
setting financial goals, and developing a plan of action. The CPFC™ was
also designed to fulfill the requirements of the Uniform Debt Management
Services Act and various state laws.
The Certified Educator in Personal Finance™ (CEPF™) was designed
to provide professional development and training for those who work with
clients and communities in a group setting to educate them in understanding
the fundamentals of personal finance. The CEPF™ was also designed
to integrate and adhere to the Standards and Best Practices in both K-12
and Adult Financial Literacy Education.
