The Institute for Financial Literacy® hosts the Annual Conference on Financial
Education™. The Conference provides professional development opportunities
for individuals who work with financial literacy education. In addition
to being a critical networking event for financial educators, the Conference
offers attendees the opportunity to learn about current trends, develop
funding strategies and advance the cause of financial education.

and tools work best for different age groups and for adults? How can we
effectively bridge the right brain/left brain divide? What are common mistakes

Overview: The federal, state and local governments are becoming increasingly
involved in financial education in schools, communities and workplaces.

organizations can play a role in their expanding responsibilities.

Overview: A nationally renowned speaker and advocate for financial education,
Mr. Hildebrand will address the vital role that financial educators play
in helping people avoid, manage and recover from financial distress.

Session III: Financial Services and Financial Literacy—Where Mission Meets

Overview: This panel will cover the role and obligations of banks, credit
unions, and finance companies to support and provide financial education.
Panelists will discuss ethical obligations and opportunities presented
to businesses whose primary model is selling financial products to consumers.

Session IV: Professional Development for Financial Educators
Presenter(s): Lori Pollack, Director, Center for Financial Certifications
Overview: As the financial literacy movement grows, financial educators
must seek out professional development opportunities to expand their
knowledge base and keep current in this dynamic and fast-paced field.
Ms. Pollack will address the challenges faced by financial educators
as they evaluate certification programs.

Session V: Financial Education in Bankruptcy
Presenter(s): John P. Fitzgerald, III, Assistant United States Trustee
Overview: Last year, Congress enacted sweeping reform of the federal bankruptcy
laws. This session will analyze the effects of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention
and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA) on financial education.
Mr. Fitzgerald will also provide an overview of the process to become
an approved provider as well as the re-approval process.

Overview: A “tough love” session presented by the folks who write the
checks. More than just a course on grant writing, this session will cover
the decision-making process and what grantors look for when funding financial
education.
